Arabia 14 August, 2020 3 minutes read

Hello everyone, how was the week? We have been very busy working on the list of free museums in Barcelona. Obviously, they are not all free every day, under a brief description about each museum, you will have the days and hours of each one. We are lucky to have a city full of culture, so we should take advantage of it, right? Don’t miss the best free museums in Barcelona!

MNAC

This museum is a real wonder, it offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, they are specialized in modernism, renaissance or baroque, as well as being located in the National Palace, at the top of Avenida Maria Cristina, with incredible views of Barcelona.

The MNAC opens its doors for free on the first Sunday of each month and on Saturdays from 3:00 p.m. It’s also free on September 11th and International Museum Day.

MUHBA

The Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA) wants to be a new concept of museum, distributed throughout the city and with numerous venues that allow the history of Barcelona to be explained in the urban settings where it has been developed: MUHBA Temple d’August, MUHBA Plaça del Rei, Puerta de Mar, MUHBA Via Sepulcral Romana, among others.

Admission to the museum is free every Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on the first Sunday of the month you can enter without paying all day (valid in all Muhba venues, except Park Güell). In addition, it celebrates an open day for Santa Eulàlia, on September 24 and May 18.

CCCB

The CCCB is a cultural center dedicated to exploring the great themes of contemporary society with an extensive program that includes major thematic exhibitions, series of conferences and literary meetings, audiovisual screenings and festivals.

Free entry on Sundays from 3pm to 8pm (with limited capacity, prior reservation recommended), International Museum Day, Museum Night and La Mercè.

Museu del Disseny

The Museu del Disseny of Barcelona is the museum of object and design arts, the product of the integration of the collections of the Museu de les Arts Decoratives (decorative arts and industrial design), the Museu de Ceràmica (ceramics), the Textile Museum i d’Indumentària (textiles and clothing) and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques (graphic arts) of the city. Besides being in a magical setting, next to the Agbar tower, you have a very extensive library where you can find any type of information related to design.

The Museu del Disseny is open for free every first Sunday of the month, and every Sunday from 3pm to 8pm.

MACBA

The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona occupies the impressive building of the American architect Richard Meier in the Plaza dels Àngels, in the Raval. In addition to showing the contemporary art collection, offering a multiplicity of visions and generating critical debates about art and culture, they also host temporary exhibitions such as Takis.

MACBA opens for free on Saturday afternoons, from 4pm to 8pm. They also celebrate open doors for Santa Eulàlia.
