If you ever visit Barcelona, you will notice a ton of cafés that are filled with people lounging outside. Cafés are a large component of Barcelona’s social life. People like to meet up with their friends on break and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Here, there is no such thing as coffee on the go– unless your’e grabbing Starbucks.
I have really come to enjoy Barcelona cafés, and I thought I’d share a few of my favorites with you.
Café Zurich
This was the first café that I ever visited in Barcelona, and the servers were more than welcoming. They have the tastiest little sandwiches with the best Spanish ham, and everything is super affordable! The only issue that I’ve ever had with this café is the lack of space inside. It is located in Plaça Catalunya which is the HUB of tourism, and sometimes it’s hard to grab a seat. The outdoor seating is great for people watching on a sunny day.
Location: Plaça de Catalunya, 1-4, 08002
Citizen Café
If your’e looking for a traditional Spanish café, this is not it. Citizen Café is extremely americanized. If you are searching for the best brunch of your life along with a cute little cup of coffee, then this is the place for you! Although the food here is a bit pricey, it is certainly worth a couple of extra dollars. The French toast is my personal favorite 🙂
Location: Plaça d’Urquinaona, 4, 08010

LaBar Laundry Bar
Talk about word play! LaBar (Lavar), is probably the most underrated cafe in Barcelona. At this cafe, you can do your laundry while having a drink. How cool is that?! Inside, there is a super low-key and relaxed atmosphere where people come for laundry, or simply a cup of coffee. There are a ton of drinks and snacks to choose from, and it is definitely on my list of affordable cafes.
Location: Carrer del Consell de Cent, 442, 08013
Satan’s Coffee Corner
Not only is the coffee smoking hot, but so is the atmosphere of this café. If your’e looking for an edgy, fun place to have a piping hot cup of coffee, then you will certainly appreciate this place. A word of caution: If you are trying to do anything productive, you will have a hard time focusing here because they tend to play extremely loud rock music here.
Location: Carrer de l’Arc de Sant Ramon del Call, 11, 08002
Nømad Coffee
This to-go cafeteria only serves coffee, a very expensive and quality coffee. The small place offers limited seating as their philosophy is to offer a “Grab & Go specialty coffee”. Nømad Coffee is located in the Born neighborhood and it is hidden in a narrow path called Passatge Sert. The iced latte that I had was around 5€, so be ready to spend a few more euros.
Location: Passatge Sert, 12, 08003, Barcelona.
