Jardins de la Tamarita: Off the beaten path

William 24 June, 2018 2 minutes read

Barcelona is relatively small. However, there’s a lot of culture which makes it ideal for anyone looking to experience a lot in a very short amount of time.

There are a number of sites that are definitely worth trekking out of the city center. We all love off the beaten path sites and hidden gems, right?

The Jardins de la Tamarita is a personal favorite. There’s such a peaceful atmosphere that feels as if you weren’t in a busy city at all. There are many towns nearby Barcelona that are quiet and relaxing but they’re unfortunately a bit too further away. Undoubtedly, it’s nice to see more greenery around the city thought.

Jardins de la Tamarita History

It’s located at the very end of the L7 metro line. They created the Jardins de la Tamarita in 1918. It was actually built as addition to the manor of a wealthy cotton producer. They abandoned the gardens after the Spanish Civil War. However, they became public ownership in 1993. Barcelona renovated the gardens after two years and finally opened to the public in 1995.

For those looking for a nice place to relax that’s certainly not overrun by tourists, the Jardins de la Tamarita is an ideal location. The 15 minute train ride out is a small price to pay for tranquility that is rarely found in the city center.

Having said that, If you’re a fan of quiet surroundings, check out our Jardins de Laribal post or the Ciutadella Park. Other gardens and green spaces you could visit in Barcelona are; Barcelona’s University Gardens, Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, Laberint d’Horta Gardens or the Collserola Park, for instance.
