Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC)

William 20 July, 2018 2 minutes read

After a while, I finally made it to the MNAC, the National Art Museum of Catalonia. There are more than a few stairs to get to the museum so, wear comfortable shoes. The views up there were amazing, specially at sunset.

You can also view the pristine Font Màgica, from the museums steps. The fountain runs from 7PM to 9PM in the Fall and Winter and from 9PM to 11:30PM in the Spring and summer.

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya’s true beauty lies within its expansive collection of artwork that showcases both the talent of the artists  and the collective artistic history of Catalonia.

The National art Museum of Catalonia is certainly among the most popular of Barcelona’s attractions and for good reason. The museum is home to the largest collection of art in the city, with works that show the best of Catalan artists from the Romanesque to the modern.

Originally founded in 1924, The Palau Nacional has been home to the Museu d’Art de Catalunya since 1934. In 1990 the museum was declared a national museum by the Catalan government.

Moreover, the museum was renovated in 1992 and opened for the Olympic games in Barcelona that year. They installed the many collections that currently exist in the museum between 1995 and 2004, when the museum was officially inaugurated.
