Have you ever heard of Antoni Tapies? Well, he was a painter, sculptor and theorist of spanish art. One of the main exponents of informalism worldwide.
He is considered one of the most outstanding Spanish artists of the 20th century.
He was born in Barcelona and rubbed shoulders with artists as Joan Brossa, with whom he formed the Dau al Set club (dice at seven). He left a large part of his work in the city of Barcelona, although previously it plays were also in museums in New York, London or Paris.
In 1984 the was created in Barcelona, located in an old building designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Inaugurated in 1990, its collections, made up of the work donated by Teresa and Antoni Tàpies, constitute the most complete collection of the works by this curious painter (and more facets, such as a writer).
The Exhibition of Fundació Antoni Tàpies
Well that’s where we want to go! You have in Barcelona the famous Antoni Tàpies Foundation, which currently has three exhibitions
- El Ácido es mi cuchillo (Acid is my knife)
Among the techniques with which Antoni created, this exhibition is based on intaglio, the process of engraving an image on a metal plate through the action of acid. There are two types of chalcographic processes: etching and aquatint. Sounds interesting right? Don’t miss it!
- Teatro (Theater)
This exhibition has the privilege of showing us for the first time the relationship that Tàpies had with the theater. It includes various forms of collaboration or evocation of the world of entertainment.
- Certezas sentidas (Certainty felt) MY FAVORITE!!
Tàpies creates part of the works with materials that already had a life. That is, recycled. He used clothes with paints, stains or prints. Furthermore, one is able to observe how in those works that he creates, Tàpies reflects a sadness, and even an inner pessimism. It is the exhibition that made me feel the most.
In addition to the exhibitions, I invite you to take a good look at the building that houses them. As I have mentioned before, designed by Domènech i Montaner, he does not forget who Tàpies is and what style he deserves to keep his works.
Tip!
If you can, ask for the terrace, there is a fantastic sculpture created by Tàpies that gives a lot of room to the imagination.
