December has arrived and with that the Christmas spirit! We can see it on shopfronts, cafes and restaurants, streets or in people’s houses. December in Barcelona is one of the coldest months. However, it adds that special Christmas touch that we all like during the holidays, right? I just love having a hot chocolate drink in my warmest pajamas and my softest blanket while watching a romantic Christmas film. Are you currently in Barcelona and aren’t sure what to do during the month? Check out these cool and christmassy activities!

Skiing in La Molina

I know I said “December in Barcelona” but I reckon it’s interesting to mention La Molina Skiing Station. La Molina is in the Pyrenees (Girona Province), about 2 hours and 15′ by car from Barcelona. There are regular buses and trains that operate regularly during winter which makes it quite accessible. If you’ve never been skiing, this is the best way to enjoy yourself this month!

Light-watching

I’m definitely a Christmas lights Lover. Who isn’t though? I could probably take pictures of every single Christmas light around the city. Most of the famous attractions like La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Passeig de Gràcia or Plaça Catalunya will be nicely decorated. However, it was a bit disappointing this year.

Go Ice Skating

Another activity that many people enjoy is going ice skating (meaning: falling down over and over). Ice rinks are set up around the city during December and early January. Some of them are at La Maquinista shopping center, Kaliu Park in Hospitalet or the Pedralbes Center in les Corts. You can also go ice skating throughout the year at Skating Barcelona or at the FC Barcelona official Ice Rink.

Christmas Markets

Christmas markets in Barcelona during December are cute but maybe not as interesting as in other cities. The most popular one is the Mercat de Santa Llúcia, located in front of the Barcelona Cathedral. There’s also the Sagrada Familia Christmas Fair or the All Those Food Market (Christmas Edition) which is celebrated in the magical gardens of Barcelona’s University.

Wish List Hunt

You probably have all your Christmas Lists sorted but the serious part comes when you need to go out there and purchase all the goods. With Christmas approaching you’ll need a few days to go to the shopping center, not just to buy your family’s and friend’s presents but also to get yourself the perfect outfit for Christmas dinner or New Years Eve.

Cafe Hopping

To avoid hanging around in the cold, people usually meet in the cutest cafes to have a coffee or a hot chocolate drink. Cafes are warm inside, they will probably be decorated with Christmas lights and will certainly have wifi, what else do you need?

Other fun activities

The Spanish Village in Barcelona organizes different events during December; the Santa Claus or the Three Kings visit, Christmas workshops for kids, performances and many other Christmas games.

Enjoy the best New Years Party in Poble Espanyol with the best atmosphere you could ever experience, music and drinks! Say goodbye to 2018 in one of the most emblematic venues of Barcelona.

The biggest enjoyable activity during December for both kids and adults is the Three Kings Parade celebrated on the 5th of January. Can’t miss it!
